has anyone been able to find a good source for asian news in english that isn’t from an UK-US based organization? i find myself going to the NYT and the BBC primarily and then looking under their asian sections. this is usually part of my morning routine as i sit down and get started on my day, however i’m interested in finding sources from asia directly. any tips?

I know there are a couple in Hong Kong that are written in English. Asia Times and HK Standard for example. A huge chunk of the International Herald Tribune is also written out of HK, but that’s a US company. The Bangkok Post is in English. I’m not sure the quality of any of these though – they definitely target foreigners.

Another option is to scan Global Voices. There’s a LOT of coverage of Asia there, from people living in Asia translating Asian news and blogs to English. That’s usually where I get the best info. I try to scan GV every few days or so.
